Distorted reality

There are days when everything looks skewed and out of balance. What you knew and how you felt becomes transformed into an altered reality. Did this happen because something actually changed?

In time you come to realize that things really did not change, and that your view was only temporarily distorted because you have been looking thorough a prism, or poor quality glass.

The bench in this photo really is tilted. Another flake of snow will probably cause it to collapse. It is the bench that is slanted, not my view.

Bright sun, bright color

During our months of gloomy overcast skys and monochrome gray snow, it is a joy to come upon fresh vibrent colors, lit by bright sunshine, if only from the florist and arranged in a vase.

Sunbeam

Maybe this is a common phenomena, but I can't say that I have ever seen a sunrise like this.

The photo is not manipulated or enhanced to bring out the shaft of light. It appeared just as the sun was about to peek over the horizon, and remained for only a minute to two.

At first I though the mother ship was preparing to beam-up someone or something, but I guess it is a natural, yet dramatic, occurrence.

129 year old modern office building

This flour mill, gain elevator and storage silo was build along the Erie canal in 1882. It is the tallest structure in Pittsford NY and is a defining landmark in the village. What was old became new when developers recently renovated and converted the vacant space into desirable office space. The silos and grain elevator were even made into a 9 story office tower.

I admire efforts like this to save historic structures. Redevelopment while retaining the character that defines a place is a commendable accomplishment.

Cemetery gates

They have to keep them locked, because people are just dying to get in.

Room 406: a room with a view

Not all hotel rooms have a great view, but a gas station, a convenience store and a McDonald's... what more could you ask for?

Danger

To me it is like a magnet. What is in there? Is it really dangerous? I want to see!

Maybe the door is not locked!!

Fractal

I am no expert but I think this image could represent a fractal. It is a geometric shape, but not a regular shape like a circle or square. It is irregular, but repeating in progressively smaller scales. The trunk becomes a branch which become a smaller branch, then smaller still. The shapes are similar but there is some randomness.

Window of opportunity

The window is a wonderful contrivance... when inside, it allows light to enter, and provides a means to view the outside world.

But is also allows those outside to peek in.

So it is a two way street... a means of observation without hindrance, but at the expense of privacy.

From this standpoint a window is a metaphor. We want freedom, yet in our dangerous world, it often results in intrusion.
