July 4th 2012, Lake George, New York

July 4th is a national day of picnics, friends and family, the unofficial start of summer, and in the evening; fireworks. Of course it is also a celebration of our independence from the rule of England. Today England and the United State are the closest of allies (except maybe Canada if only because of geographic closeness).

I strikes me as odd that our best friends are the counties that we once fought against... England being only one example.  Germany and Japan are other instances that come to mind. Even Canada. Wonder why that is?

At any rate, it was a wonderful day, on and near a great body of water, spent with good friends.

  1. I live about 20 minutes away from there and was going to head up there today, but then I remembered, they a circus in town, a real circus, and it is Friday the 13th. I'll take a raincheck on that.
