Looking at the sign (not the big one, the little green one) I wonder what it means and who it is for. Certainly someone passing in a car will not see it and even if they did, what does it mean? Often you see mile markers on roads but this does not seem to be a mile marker.

Anyone have a guess or an answer?

What happened to America?

Have we become a nation of fear and hate? Can we not extend hope and possibility of a better life to those who suffer? Do we no longer exemplify justice and compassion to the world?

This blog is not intended to be political, but it is difficult to suppress my disappointment and depression.

Freeze lines

It is curious how distinct and sharp white lines formed as this pond (puddle really) froze creating what looks like a topical map with elevation indicators.

Return to snow

Finally we are back to snow in January, but most will melt today as the temperature raises above freezing. The weather has been strange this year all across the country.

Goodbye Pizza Hut

Not that I will miss the Hut... pretty ugly building, not the best pizza, and no good gluten-free options for me. Besides, they opened a new "hut" across the parking lot which is just a storefront in a plaza.

This should be the last foggy picture for a while... it is snowing today.

Fog

I admit that I like photographing with some direct light, but it is true that fog can be magical. Colors mute and layers of atmosphere add a feeling of calm and serenity.

Slow Children

With all the terrible weather across the country we are only dealing with gloom, with none of the usual snow. Not seeing much sunshine this time of year is common, but that does not make me wish it was not so.

It was 56 degrees for this mornings walk... back to the 20's tonight.

Frozen pond

Well, mostly frozen. Some of the surface is open to the delight of the birds. Liquid water can be hard to come by in the cold winter months and birds, like us, need water to survive.

Nighttime on Queen Street

Queen Street it the main street in the town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Here you find many shops and restaurants, and during the holiday season you find lots of white lights and Christmas decorations.

Niagara-on-the-Lake

We once again visited Niagara-on-the-Lake for a cold breezy start to 2017. This is the classic scene on Queen Street of the Cenotaph and Court House. I have to admit I did not know what a cenotaph was and had to consult Wikipedia.
