Chill in the air

Summer never seems to last very long, and too soon the days and nights turn cool. What follows are the colors of autumn. They sneak in until one day you notice the deep greens are giving way to new shades and hues.

Fall can be a nice season, but it is sad to say goodbye to the warmth of summer.

Lunar Sandwich

Nestled between those clouds is our tiny Moon.

At least it looks tiny.

I was surprised to learn that the Moon is actually one forth the diamater of the Earth, which seems pretty big. But it is only 1/80th of the mass of our home planet, so I guess it is small.

Regardless of it's size, it looks pretty lonely out there.

Mystery photo take 4

I have not posted a mystery photo in a long time, and this really is not much of a mystery. The photo was taken so close-up that is difficult to see exactly what it is, other than a remarkable work of art.

How 'bout them apples!

Yes, I live in apple country. Webster is full of apple orchards and this time of year the bright red fruit starts to show its ripeness.

What amazes me is the productivity of these trees. It seems there is more apples then leaves. Makes me a little jealous... wish I could be as prolific.

Yellow house

A really bright yellow, especially in the early morning light. Strange design... looks like they added on to the addition. And the condition of that yellow siding does not look too healthy. In fact it appears the only thing holding up the house is the vibrant color.

Looking out my back door

As the afternoon shower faded, the western sky broke allowing a shaft of light to penetrate onto the treetops, creating a contrast to the still dark clouds above.

The Sentinel

The famous Albert Paley sculpture that stands at the main entry point into the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) campus. This angle makes it look kinda like a bunch of junk.

Here is a more conventional photo. Maybe it still looks like a pile of junk?

But I do like it. And it is interesting to view from many angles. And it is BIG. The choice of different metals have weathered in different ways over the few years it has been installed. And that makes it even more interesting.

My town

Well actually my town is several miles to the northeast... in Webster.

But this is the Rochester metro skyline from Cobbs Hill.  It's not a big city and in fact from this vantage it looks rather small.  Looking over the green trees it appears that Rochester is at the edge of the forest, but it is actually bordered by tree shaded neighborhoods.

Not a bad place to live, especially on a bright summer morning like this.
