Lightscatter

An homage to my friend Ken, who is always finding interesting images in refections and textures... especially of water.

I had high hopes for the uncropped version of this image taken in Ellison Park which is still flooded from many days of rain. The full image just did not work for me, was too busy, and the reflection confusing. So I have attempted to find something in the abstract details.

I can see right through you

Well, at least it looks that way.

Actually, it is the reflection in the glass.

Our robins

We have been very lucky this year with a robins nest just outside our window. The three babies are almost ready to leave the nest but still depend on mom for food, and shelter from the rain we have been having. It has been very interesting watching the progress over the last few weeks.

I guess you could say we have had a birds-eye view.

Babies above... mom and babies below.

Farmers field

Another iPod photo.

We have had a week of rain and gloom. Today was glorious (the picture was made yesterday) and they say more rain tomorrow.

At least it keeps things green.

Starfire Motel

I have passed a number of these old time motels around Niagara Falls... relics of '50s and '60s family vacationers. They look pretty seedy these days and and are not busy establishments. Niagara Falls is still a wonder of the world and a great place to visit for a day or a few hours, but these motels are neglected and frozen in time.

I plan to do a series of these signs but never seem to find the time when passing by. This shot was a spur of the moment, and to make matters worse I did not have a proper camera with me (which is very unusual) other than my iPod.  So, with a photo taken with a music player, you can't expect much... but with a bit of post processing I think the result is kind of in keeping with the subject.

Cute

Babies and mother... what could be cuter?

From what I have read this is a response that is programmed into us... a way of compelling us to protect and nurture the young so they can grow to be strong and self-sufficient.

Well, at least that is the way it is supposed to work with-in our own species, but you would have to be a pretty mean person to not respect mother and baby in this group.

Swan

Ken, I finally found your swans... but at the south end of the bay.

Grand tree

Not sure why I am attracted to giant trees, but for sure I am.

The outstretched arms, the rough bark texture, the vivid green, and the deep cool shade... all good enough reasons for me.

Rhododendron ate the house

Rhododendron is a beautiful plant and the blossoms are really colorful in spring. This homeowner must be either really proud, or at a loss as to get out from under that bush.
