Dead mall

First you see more and more empty storefronts, then the anchor stores close-up... it's a dead mall. The management talks about a "new concept", which usually means outlet stores, but will they come?

This is happening all around the country... too many malls and not enough shoppers. They have moved to on-line or new outlet mega-centers.

Foggy morning

I think I have used this posting title before, but what else can I say. This was the view in my backyard at sunrise this morning.

Downed trees

There are plenty of downed trees around as a result of the recent wind storm. They are slowing being cut-up and removed but this particular tree is still laying in the water at North Ponds park.

Under the weather

First it was the wind storm, then several feet of snow, and now the flu. I am proof that a flu shot does not guarantee the bug doesn't get you. Consequently I have not been out with camera in a while, so here is a picture from a little over a week ago that was still in my "maybe" pile.

Merging traffic

This sign was apparently placed neatly beneath the expressway bridge by recent high winds that toppled trees and utility poles. Over 100,000 people lost power four days ago, and still about 40,000 are without heat and light despite the multitudes of utility trucks that have surged into the area. We were very lucky and were not affected. This has been a difficult struggle for so many, especially due to the single digit frigid temperatures.

Wind on the water

This is a temporary springtime pond along the Route 104 Trail... a result of snowmelt and recent rain. Normally you would not expect "waves" here but today it is really windy in Webster. The weatherman just let us know that 72MPH gusts were recorded at the airport earlier.

Hope my house does not blow away!

Shapes, textures and shadows

Yeah... a roadway guardrail. My eye was drawn to the dappled light and texture of the rail. And diagonals always work for me.

Into the sun

I remember early advice on photography... always have the sun on your back. That makes for some flat and unflattering pictures. Shooting at other angles is more interesting and into the sun can create converging shadows.

Secluded home

Not actually that secluded. There is an expressway just above the hill, but from the vantage of Devil's Cove it is very much in the wilderness. The cove is narrow and not easily seen from the bay and neighboring homes are well hid by the woods.

65F yesterday, snow-cover this morning

Someone once said "If you don't like the weather in Webster, just wait twenty minutes".
