Sunbeam

Maybe this is a common phenomena, but I can't say that I have ever seen a sunrise like this.

The photo is not manipulated or enhanced to bring out the shaft of light. It appeared just as the sun was about to peek over the horizon, and remained for only a minute to two.

At first I though the mother ship was preparing to beam-up someone or something, but I guess it is a natural, yet dramatic, occurrence.

  1. This is a sun pillar, a vertical shaft of light reflecting off ice crystals in the sky (okay, I used the Internet to find out). They are pretty rare. Good for you for being awake so early and capturing it.
