On the rocks

I have had 3 shrubs die this year, probably because of the unusually hot dry summer, but they were planted in good soil that the bushes could spread their roots into. But here we have substantial trees growing on impenetrable rock, and looking quite healthy and happy.

Of course water is available, as is the irony.

    Those are hearty, determined trees to grow on those rocks. Would not think they get any nutrition from rocks. Thank you for the funny comment you left on my blog today. Always good to have fun and keep smiling.

    Ahah! What do I see on centre left? Is that a root departing the rock and entering the realm of "good soil"?
