The original 1905 gallery when completed had more marble columns than any building in the country other than the nations capitol.
The newer 1962 addition has a panoramic feel, more in line with contemporary galleries, with broad spaces and wide stairways.
So we have both strong vertical and sweeping horizontal... a nice contrast, but each elegant in different yet complementary ways.
