It's hard to think of any manufactured item that has not changed substantially over the last 50 years, but these school busses sure seem stuck in time. They may have seat belts now, but they really do not look much different what you would have seen picking up kids in the 1960s.
Is it a design that is so perfect it cannot be improved, or just lack of innovation?
It's a funny thing. To us Brits (well me for certain), these buses are just what we think of as part of the States; one always seems to show up in every film or TV series (or at least the ones I've seen!). When I've been across the pond, I've noticed them too, along with yellow cabs. Here, in the UK, school buses are just local coach companies of any persuasion that just happened to have won the contract with the local authority.
