Repurposed

It's not unusual to find old manufacturing spaces recycled into new uses... for retail, or offices, or even lofts for artists. What is unusual is that often these ventures start out with a bang and then slowly loose their appeal and degenerate into vacant and run-down tax evaders.

This space, Village Gate in Rochester, has not taken that path but instead continually reinvented and evolved, and doing OK even after thirty years of use.

  1. That large skylight provides great defuse light to this space. Nice that the building continues to have a viable use.

  2. Recycling old manufacturing spaces and warehouses is popular in Australia and for the most part such undertakings tend to last long term. This Village Gate space looks pretty cool.

  3. It's been a while since I've been here but I've always liked it. The sculptures outside are a challenge to photograph but I think I'll head there after work now that the weather is getting nicer.
