I was thinking about St. Patrick's Day but I now see that thistle is really a symbol of Scotland. The intricate spikiness of the flower is a curious design, even when the plant has dried and gone to seed.

  1. John, I just saw newspaper photos of the Brit's gentry wearin' the green for St. Patrick's day - which I find outrageuos after that bloody british regime in Ireland. I prefer to stick with the thistle for that occasion in order to not add insult to injury...
