Right side-up, and upside down

Can you spot the bird in the photo? If you click to enlarge the picture you will see it hidden on the pond edge near the center. I did not see the bird either until it took flight. The quick shot below caught what I think is a heron, but my lens was too short. The detail is a 100% crop, but still it is fairly sharp.

  1. Definitely a heron and a testament to how well they camouflage themselves in the environment. I think it makes a great "hidden detail" to your photo. I actually prefer the environmental context to the razor sharp 800mm portrait that we so often see.

  2. Looks like a Great Blue Heron to me, and yes, I did see it along the shore but only because I was looking for a bird there.
