Intersection

A quick draw photo.

Keeping the camera near me sometimes means, even in traffic, grabbing a photo when something catches my eye. Often this hurried exposure leads nowhere, but other times it can be interesting.

By the way, this was a 1/2 second exposure handheld while waiting for the light... a testimony to how good image stabilization can be (notice the car light streaks). Not saying this is a technically great photo, but still surprising to me.

  1. A half second hand held is amazing. Use to be in the old film days that the slowest shutter speed with any chance of a sharp picture was one 1/60th of a second. Might get away with 1/30th if the camera was resting on something solid. Interesting image.

    1. Thanks... I should have mentioned that 1/2 second exposure was not intentional. When I squeezed off the two quick shots I did not realize until later that the lens was set for f8! This was an example of shoot first, think later.

  2. I think it looks great for the conditions you mention, handheld, 1/2 second etc.

  3. That's pretty amazing!!! My handhold limit is 1/30 sec. with the D600. I was also thinking that it's great not to have to worry about reciprocity any more. Did you steady the camera on the steering wheel?

    1. Ken, I would never recommend 1/2 second exposures handheld... it was really just luck; both bad and good. Bad that the camera was set for f8, but good that it turned out at all.

And no I did not brace the camera. I rolled down the car window and popped the camera out the window, hoping I would not drop it to the street.

By the way, I really prefer a different crop that you can see here:

but as you know, I keep to 1 to 1 ratio here for no good reason other than it is what I do.
