High contrast black & white seemed to work best for this abstract look at so-called "Spanish Moss" that is not a moss at all, but a bromeliad air plant.

Simple shapes often attract my eyes.

I guess this looks pretty abstract, that is until you realize what it is.

Fun with LEDs

Putting away the last of the Christmas lights I decided to play with a string of LED lights, setting the camera out of focus and on a long exposure, then doing "performance art"... jumping about while shaking the camera. It is kind of fun and even good exercise if you do it long enough (I took a few dozen shots).

And many abstract possibilities show up in the camera LCD.

The LEDs have intense color and they flicker with the AC current adding another point of interest.

I have done this before but that was quite a few years ago, so I figured it was time to go at it again... just for fun.

Curious

This is the pattern I found on the walkway on my trudge into the office today. 

Strange pattern. And of course I wondered what caused such a design.

If you look closely you will see gains of salt that were scattered to dissipate the ice. For some reason the mineral was disturbed by wind or by shovel to create the worm-like patterns.

Interesting what you can see if you take time to look.

Snow patterns

Context

I suppose the blades of grass in the lower right corner give it away. Without that clue this could almost be a moss covered rock cliff, or the wall of a deep damp revine.

Wide angle viewpoints provide context, but sometimes focusing on intimate detail can be more engaging.

Lightscatter

An homage to my friend Ken, who is always finding interesting images in refections and textures... especially of water.

I had high hopes for the uncropped version of this image taken in Ellison Park which is still flooded from many days of rain. The full image just did not work for me, was too busy, and the reflection confusing. So I have attempted to find something in the abstract details.
