Turkey vultures

As I was walking along for some reason I looked up and was surprised by the sight of eight large birds above me in the trees. They were big enough that I did sense a bit of fear but should not have. I was not sure what they were but a bit of research led me to the conclusion that they were turkey vultures, birds that do not hunt but are primarily scavengers that consume carrion.

So, realizing that I was still alive I knew that I was safe.

USA

Here's a way to show your patriotism in a BIG way... so big that it is clearly visible on Bing Maps (Google maps apparently no longer offers satellite views, only Google earth which does not look as good).

Windmill

Not all windmills make electricity. This one is of a slightly older style. It was used for pumping water (I think) but, in this case, I imagine it is more for show... a quaint reminder of days gone by.

Finger Lakes

We spent the weekend in the Finger Lakes enjoying terrific weather, tasting wine and taking in the wonderful views. This is a view of Keuka Lake, the one that is shaped like a Y.

South of Seneca

South of Seneca Lake is Montour Falls. I took a look at the high rock face cascade but found the view across the street more interesting. The pillars on both buildings are round but made of brick, which is unusual. The larger building is the Montour Falls municipal offices and the smaller was originally a bank but now serves are the public library.

Also south of the lake but closer to shore is Watkins Glen, which my previous post addressed. The autumnal picture below is another view from the park trail.

Looking up

I keep finding these older images that were never posted. I really need to get back to my usual routine of photos only a day or two old, but for now this is the best I can do.

Ford truck

I get the feeling that this truck has seen a lot of hard work over the years.

Old stone barn

They don't make them like this anymore. Maybe they never did.

The construction looks like it would last a long time, and I guess this picture is the proof that it can... but good maintenance has contributed greatly I am sure.
