Yellow pipe

I try to get the geometry nice and squared-up. I find that very satisfying. Maybe I am just peculiar that way. An unexpected pop of color and a few diagonals help too.

Science fiction

Unusual because those are obviously not accurate colors.

I shot this on my recent cruise on the top deck. I liked the white radar domes (I guess) against the pale blue sky with the subtile clouds on the horizon. But... I shot this with my iPhone and I had been messing with controls and did not realize in the bright morning light that the photos were taken in black & white, and not in RAW so I was disappointed to find the attractiveness of that sky was lost.

And so, frustrated, I started fiddling with the photo and created masks and added colors to create this otherworldly image. I was planning to do this in Photoshop but found I was able to achieve the look using only LightRoom.

So it is a gimmick, but a unique image nonetheless.

Color

Well, to break my run of black & white I had to really blast some color. Somehow this unusual shot appeals to me not so much as a photo but as design. I am sure most people would not purposely shoot this framing but the intense color and contrast appeals to me... so that is the story I am sticking with.

Dragon

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has had a wonderful exhibit this year, "Colors of the Wild"... a display of hundreds of Asian lanterns arranged in 70 different scenes. A real visual delight.

TSO

The Tans-Siberian Orchestra annual Christmas show is a spectacular featuring tons of intelligent lighting, lazers, fireworks, flame throwers, a half dozen video panels, hydraulic risers, multiple undulating trusses and individual LED clusters along with over-the-top rock style music. Nothing subtle here. It is an enjoyable show that was performed for about 15,000 people here in Jacksonville FL.

Autumn colors in Florida

Its not like being in the northeast but there is some color. It appears later in the season and is much less prevalent but there are bright reds and yellows to be found.

Patterns and shadows

Anila Quayyum Agha "Flight Patterns" exhibit at the Cummer... really taken by the patterns of light.

Wacky presets

I have been absent from the posting routine for quite awhile. I have been busy with other interests and not spending much time thinking about photography. I need to get back to this channel of expression.

For now, here is an iPhone shot that seemed interesting when I captured it but was less interesting when I viewed it later. It just did not have good contrast and color.

Rolling my computer pointer over the factory provided presets in Lightroom I came across a preset called "IR", presumably intended to make the photo look as though it was shot as infrared. The colors are not true and saturated and contrast is manipulated but somehow it seems nice to me so here it is. Not my usual treatment and obviously highly processed.

Let me know what you think.

Saturated color

I don't know of any other business that has such a saturated color scheme. Ikea stores seem to have turned up the color to 11, to the point it seems almost unnatural or even possible. Of course blue and yellow are the national colors of Sweden and Ikea likes to tie their nationality into their identity.

Christmas lights

A bit over the top but impressive in person. This home was part of ABCs Great Christmas Light Fight program this year and is located near where I now live. They did not win but I did enjoy a walk through the installation.

Winter colors

Colors during the cooler weather are quite a bit different than up north. The vines that have invaded this palm tree certainly add some colorful interest to this scene.
