Eat Fresh Seafood
Where I now live there is a type of restaurant that is called a "fish camp". I guess these can be found throughout the south. They serve fresh local fish and shellfish with a southern twist and in a lively atmosphere. This particular establishment is known as the North Beach Fish Camp and I can highly recommend everything on the menu, although I always order the same thing each time... shrimp and grits.
I just can't figure out how they make it so delicious.

That's Hatties, on the left
Hatties Restaurant, the unpretentious home of tasty Southern cooking in Saratoga Springs. Try the fried chicken.

How about Mexican?
When the weather gets cold, I like Mexican food. Come to think about it, Mexican food is good any time.

The Village Coal Tower Restaurant
It seems restaurants can be found in all kinds of abandoned and repurposed structures: factories, warehouses, rail stations and even coal towers.

Christmas at Hattie's
'Tis the season to decorate windows and doors and anything else that can hold color and lights... which brings some color and sparkle to an otherwise often gloomy time of the year.

Capital Buffet
You can always tell a good restaurant if there a lots of cars parked in front.
But to be fair, it was early Sunday morning... nothing was open.

Chicken on the roof
This is not the most flattering view of Hattie's, and it's not very flattering to the eye anywhere... but if you have a hankering for Southern cooking while in Saratoga Springs, this is the place to go. The fried chicken is famous, and even Bobby Flay was not able to best it.

Santa Fe restaurants
This post is not intended to provide recommendations for places to eat, although I am sure each is good. The selection of pictures seemed only to point out the variety of choices available in Santa Fe. This first is a nice spot right on the historic plaza with cool colored lights in the dining area.
This little Mexican style restaurant was so small it seemed to push into the alley. It is located, by the way, on call Burro Alley where years ago would have been filled with actual burros (yes, I saw the picture!).
This last picture demonstrates that no matter where you go you will find oriental food choices, even sometimes in adobe inspired buildings.

Bummer of a sign
We had two very good meals in this lively little restaurant, so it is a little ironic that the Do Not Enter sign is so prevalent at the front door.
