Snow dunes

Almost springlike today with bight sun and deep blue skies... and so our big snowfall is turning to liquid.

My drive home

The days are once again getting longer so there is still some light for my drive home after work. We got a real pile of snow recently, setting a new record for snow in a February day... 18.3 inches, but today the sky was clear and blue.

Snow and cold

It's been a strange winter. Not much snow. Not much cold.

But that changed this weekend with plowable snow and sub zero temperatures.

Spring is not too far off so maybe this is as bad as it gets. We will see.

Valentine

It seems more and more people are decorating their homes for Valentine's Day, so at first glance this is pretty normal. But what made me smile, if you look closely (click to enlarge), is the row of Valentine teddy bears inside the porch.

I think there is love inside.

Snow amoeba

I was struck by the patten on the sidewalk. It appears a grain of road salt is in the center of each "amoeba" which perhaps melted some of the snow making the surrounding snow stick while the snow outside the salt melt was able to be blown in the wind.

Well, that is my theory.

I was not sure about posting this image as it does not have as strong compositional quality as I like. It really is too busy, and its abundance of fine messy detail creates a jumble that I do not think is appealing... yet I am posting it anyway.

I guess I just have low standards.
